What is Bubble Tea?

Move over trendy coffee drinks and make way for the new Global craze. Finally there's a drink that you can actually EAT! For the first-timers, ordering a Bubble Tea can be an Event. What makes bubble tea so special is the tapioca pearl aka Boba, which are about the size of actual pearls or small marble balls and they have a consistency that resembles a gummy bear (SOFT and CHEWY).

The tapioca balls sink to the bottom of the cup waiting to be easily sipped right back up through an extra wide straw. YUM! The original bubble tea is made up of a hot Taiwanese black tea, tapioca pearls, condensed milk, and honey bundled together into the delicious "MILK TEA"!!!

As it became more popular, variations of it were created. Initially iced versions with a hint of peach or plum flavoring began to appear, and then more fruit flavors were added until, in some variations the tea was removed entirely in favor of just the fruity taste, and we call them FRUITY TEA's without the TEA!!!

Bubbles and Boba has created a menu that includes various hot and cold variations bursting with the most popular flavors from around the world, and special twists to cater to the multicultural nature of our region! Our delicious Bubble Tea's are split into 3 types: BUBBLE TEAS, FRUITY TEAS and SMOOTHIES, and almost all our products are dairy-free! BUBBLE TEAS represent all the milk based flavors, such as the original MILK TEA called the Bubble Milk Tea (traditional Assam Milk Tea with Tapioca pearls) Green Milk Tea (the Traditional Jasmine Green Milk Tea with Tapioca pearls) and other milk teas such as the Taro, the coconut, the chocolate, and the Honey Milk tea! YUMMY YUM!

The Bubble Effect:

All our flavors are extremely tasty and mouthwatering, but what makes it an experience first is the process of making the bubbles and by bubbles we mean the actual bubbles that are made whilst shaking the tea in our mini Shaking machine! SHAKEY SHAKE!!!!

The Boba and the Seal

Finally it's time to pick the topping AKA the tapioca balls, gummies, jellos, Boba Poppings, and all kinds of exotic additions! They are extremely bubblelicious and tasty and sink in the Bubbles & Boba Cup with the Bubble tea awaiting to be sealed by our Supercharged Sealing Machine which ensures that the Cup of Bubbles & Boba is ready to be shaken at the hands of the BOBA LOVERS!

Pop, Sip and Chew

The rest is simple: the Straw is stripped, the cup is shaken, the seal is popped, the sipping begins, the Tapioca is chewed and the flavors are devoured! And that's what we call the Bubbles & Boba Experience!

What is Tapioca?

The star of Bubble Tea is the marble sized Tapioca Pearl s (BOBA) BOBA is also known as Pearls, QQ, Tapioca Balls, and many more! For example in Philippines it is called Sago; in India it is the root of Cassava; in Vietnam it is called bột năng , and the Indonesians call it singkong. Tapioca balls are made up of starch extracted from the Cassava root, and a small amount of brown sugar that gives them the black color, yet depending on the ingredients of the pearl, multiple bright colors' are available! Furthermore; Tapioca balls are completely protein free, and gluten free! Hurraayyyy!

So where does Bubble Tea come from?

How bubble tea was discovered? The 21st century twist to our eternal favorite - the evergreen TEA! The idea of Bubble Tea was first conceived of in the Taiwanese tea houses sometime during the late 1980s.

The founder, Liu Han-Chieh, first came up with the idea of serving Chinese tea cold in the early 1980s after visiting Japan where he saw coffee served cold. Then, in 1988, his product development manager, Ms. Lin Hsiu Hui, a funny lady was sitting in a staff meeting and had brought with her a typical Taiwanese dessert called Fen yuan! Fen yuan is a sweetened tapioca pudding. Just for fun she poured the tapioca balls into her Assam iced tea and drank it. She hadn't just created a new drink but she had changed history too. She liked it and the drink was on the menu the next day, propelling his fledgling chain into Taiwanese teahouse folklore and the drink to a popular global beverage with millions of die-hard addicts across the Far East and the world.

Of course there are many different versions and twists of how and whom came up with the idea! And is the above a myth? probably! But do we care???? No!!!! Because all that matters is that someone came up with it and its now taking over the world!!!

How did Bubble Tea become a craze?

Bubble tea began its steady rise to international adoption from Taiwan to other East Asian countries and then crossed the oceans to Australia, Canada, Chinatowns throughout the United States, and various college towns along the American West Coast.

Soon it became the life of WESTWOOD in Los ANGELES, and it can now be consumed in many posh cafes in Beverly hills too! Recently Europe has discovered the craze too, and there are now Bubble tea cafés in Europe and thanks to the BUBBLES and BOBA there will soon be a craze throughout Middle East!
